Monkey Calendar Day 5.
Dec 8th
We forget to open 5th day. I do it now.
Here is story about the Team Mastery programs.
First international Team Mastery program started at December of 2006. Who were those people and what kind of challenges they had? Here are Tatu´s thoughts about his Team Mastery friends:
The first musketeers!
Charles: One of the last Dinosaurs of Belgium. Father of ten children. A former business man who about 10 years ago decided to change his life. “ Is it bad, is it good? I don´t know.”
Claude: Man with the awareness and precence. Great fan of Gandhi. Laugh which can not be forgotten.
Pascal: Great inventor of rabbit leadership. Man who has been changing Heineken breweries into a brain industrial time with Team Academy methods.
Etienne: Brave Ambassador. Father of Team Factory in Paris
Nieves: When chaos needs to turned into action with direction call this little power lady from Bask country. Mother of Team Academy Euskadi.
Xavi: “Breath in, breath out –by breathing you know you are alive”. Visioner and klownlike. Father of Team Academy Euskadi.
Gill: Wise observer with a little yellow notebook. The one to tell the right words when others speak too mutch. One of fathers Team Academy Angers
Laurent: Il Magnificio, impressive improviser, one of fathers Team Academy Angers
Pauline: Strong but emphatic coach from Neatherlands. Mother of Team Academy Haarlem.
Herve: Fearless surfer boy, one of fathers Team Academy Angers.
Robert: Doctor without borders
And there were also Sari Veripää, Sanna Tossavainen and Ville Keränen from Finland.
Second Team Mastery started at May of 2008. Here is cool notebook about Team Mastery 2 process made by Monkey Ville.
In February 2010 starts the Team Mastery 3 program. Who are those musketeers who are going to continue the story of the Team Masterys?
Here is story of Liher Pillado from Montragon University: “On my mission to create a radically better world, I want to inspire individuals and encourage collectives to lead the change they want to see. I strongly believe that TM3 could empower me on achieving this goal.”
And here is story of Theresia Warwizt from Innovation Management of Linde Group, Germany: “As an Organisation Development Manager, setting free potential for learning and creating ideal work environments in organisations is my passion. The germ for participating in Team Mastery 3 was planted when I attended Team Mastery Arena in autumn this year, and became fascinated by the way learning happens in Team Academy. In fact I believe that Team Academy tools enable a way of working that represents the future, and I wish to be a promoter of this new way, applying everything we learn – in particular teampreneurship – in the company I work for, and in all areas where we find nurturing soil, and where we as Team 3 can have a positive impact in this world. I can’t wait for the kick-off in February!”
Do you wanna be an adventurer and take part of this learning journey? Yes, you can!

Monkey Business – Story about our name
Oct 15th
Many people ask where does the name Monkey Business come from. Here is the story. Fresh from Angers where it all started, now written at Team Entrepreneur‘s office. Team Mastery 1 participants Gilles, Laurent and Herve got a three year program launched here with 18 teampreneurs just two weeks ago! Sanna is coaching here with Gilles. Fantastic job, guys. Fantastic.
Herve Explains the name of the game called Experience Economy to the teamsters.
The name of Monkey Business has a strong connection to Angers, a city in the Western France. Me and Tatu started in Team Mastery‘s 1st promotion back in Dec 2006 in Finland, and then the second session with the theme of Leadership was held in Angers. Team Mastery is an international coaching program for people who want to learn team coaching Team Academy style.
So the second session was about Leadership. And as all the weekend/adult/entrepreneurs programs coached by the Team Academy / Partus there is a birth giving of new knowledge in the Friday evening. (The sessions are from Thursday 12pm to Saturday 12pm =48hrs of intensive dialogue and team work). I remember that this particular session was not so easy for me. It was confusing – maybe it was about the difference between a coach and a leader, and also I remember one member of our team was not comfortable with the atmosphere, as it seemed very business oriented with the aim of creating more and more entrepreneurs – Where is the idealistic part and saving the world? Well, I remember that in our birth giving we asked everyone that what is their mission in this world or what they dream about. I think almost everyone dreamed of a better world in a way or another.
Then, the second birth giving was about Fertile Emptiness. I remember Sari, Emmanuel and Javier R. (in the picture above on the right taken at the Team Academy Euskadi’s 3rd Anniversary) was in that group. But what was really the ignition for our name was the third team’s birth giving about the Evolution of Leadership. It was a theatre play and it took place in the gardens of our agriturismo place. 1st scene was from the jungle were monkeys were leading one another by running around and making loads of noises. That was a key. Laurent from CoMind and Tatu could really make some cool (and loud) monkey noises and movements. Another interesting and hard-to-forget scene of that birth giving was the 3rd scene were Claude from Strasbourg and TA Alsace had climbed in the tree, and repeated the word “Awareness”. (Tatu confirms this story and say that it was harder to actually get him safely down but we managed.) It was the Guru-model of Leadership. Then there was a still 3rd level, but I cannot recall what that was. (Tatu says it was working and learning together). Here’s a picture of Claude whom I was happy to meet this Sunday.
So it was in Angers that the seeds for our name Monkey Business was sowed but the name came up in the third session of Team Mastery in London. Our friend Javier Ruiz of Labein and TA Euskadi brought with him a game that went like this: “If you were an animal, what animal were you?” Tatu said Monkey, I think I said Puma (because I used to play Ice Hockey in a team called Pumas). But then Sanna said that I would be Sloth, which is a kind of Monkey, too.
Well this game wasn’t quite enough to make the name yet. There were some people talking about the book by Ridderstråle and Nordström called Funky Business. It was Tatu who was around in another conversation where he heard Monkey Business, and a bulb lit in his head: “That’s it! That should be the name!” And the good thing was that we were going to go and do in our first coaching project outside Finland with Labein right after the session in London so we got to develop our idea of Monkey Business a bit further. On that trip we also met with folks of Funky Projects, and the artist called Lady My who eventually draw the famous Banana for us. But that is another story that deserves a post of it’s own.
Team Mastery 2 last session starts today
Sep 16th
I am so excited. And I just can’t hide it. I ‘m about to loose control and I think I like it.
The Team Mastery 2 (TM2) process’ last session starts today here in Jyväskylä. We got friends coming from Basque Country and Madrid, plus Strasbourg and Angers as cross-fertilizers. We have had a great process that started 16 months ago in May 2008. Then we had first session with this team that is nowadays known as the Power Rangers. (Partypeoplesayyeah!)
I participated in the Team Mastery 1 (TM1) process together with Tatu between December 2006 and January 2008. It was great and that is were the foundations of Monkey Business were born. For those of you who haven’t heard Team Mastery, I should tell you that it is a coaching program for people who want to learn team learning coaching the Team Academy way aka with Partus methods. It’s organized by Partus and coached by the legendary Johannes “Partus” Partanen along with Hanna Heikkinen, and myself (Ville) now in the second process.
This TM2 process has been quite special. Ever since the second session in Markina, Basque Country where our theme was customers and marketing there have been external customers / partners involved in our sessions and at least in the birth givings. Also in Markina we came up with a concept “Tribe Fiesta”.
The third session about leadership and leading thoughts was in Strasbourg hosted by TM1 participants Pascal and Claude. In there we had many cross-fertilizers from the TM1 and also we celebrated the 1st anniversary of the Team Academy in Alsace (TAA). It was phenomenal, and the challenge the Power Rangers faced with the birth-giving was for the entire tribe of TAA.
In the fourth session about Innovation we were in Haarlem, and worked intensively with the local Team Academy. Yet again the Power Rangers found themselves in a challenge bigger than before, this time with the teamsters and the dynamic situation of the Team Academy in Haarlem (TAH). There we got to see the real power of this Power Rangers team, and they did amazing job coaching and empowering the teamentrepreneurs of the TAH.
For the fifth session we travelled back to Basque Country and were hosted by Mondragon University Team Academy team, Sain, Sari, Jose-Mari and Aitor and all. First celebrations in San Sebastian and official launch of LEINN, the Teampreneur program in Mondragon University, which got awesome press coverage (11 or so articles published in Basque and Spanish media). The session was about brand management and offerings, and we made it simultaneously with the new teams of Team Academy Euskadi. Whuh. “How do you coach brand?” was the question and I think the new teams got to see what the Team Academy brand is all about.
So here is a little diagram about the levels of challenge the Power Rangers have faced. And this time it’s even bigger. The rumours tell that it’s going to be about 150 people in the Team Mastery Arena event where we have our Team Mastery 2 process going on within it. Hmm
Very exciting indeed. This challenge include coaching the Partus Learning Network coaches and the SoL Network’s leaders and Academics. I mean, now the friend leaders coaching skills are being tested. “Intervene when you feel like you shouldn’t and do not when you feel like you should.” That’s the rule number one of team coaching by Johannes. Maybe that one is something to remember now? Maybe not? Maybe we need to abandon all old theories and come up with something completely new by standing on the shoulders of the giant. I am curious. Also our Monkey Man Tatu is MC’ing the whole event!
Power Rangers, I am proud of you. I am sure this won’t be the last time we meet and we are about to engage into a new journey. Thank you!
Ps. Here are some more pictures about our process.
Ps2. I have been taking notes throughout the process, and made some notebooks on the go, so after putting them all together and maybe some further co-creation it will be published as a book or pamflet of some kind. That’s exciting, too.
Ps3. I will also ask Henna to write some’s reflections about this journey from a participant’s point of view.
Team Mastery Arena in Jyvaskyla in September
Aug 20th
We are in somewhat close relationship with the organizers of the Team Mastery Arena event coming up in Jyväskylä in 4 weeks. It’s organized by the folks of Team Academy, supported by Partus and SoL Finland. That if something should guarantee a good spirit!
This picture with Tatu, Ville and Matti the BatMan of DialogueLife is courtesy of the organizers of the event and its form their VIP customer event held a week ago. More of them in this link.
Monkey Business will be on stage with Tatu as the MC and Henna as a participant of the Team Mastery 2 whom will be the main ingredient for the second day summing it all up together all together with every participant. I am excited if I have understand it all right, and how it’s going to end up.
We’ve negotiated a special deal for the Monkey Business’ friends! Sorry, no discounts this time, but when registering, if you add to the field allergies etc. (for meals) “I like bananas!” we will provide you with a free notebook in the event.
Keep it Yellow! Ville
Team Mastery Arena – Wonderful promovideo
Jun 26th
Our man and monkey Tatu will be MC’ing in this event called Team Mastery Arena coming up in September 17th-18th. I just surfed through their site and found this hilarious and fantastic video where Nic toasts about the event. It’s excellent!
Nic, the creative agent, is a good friend of ours, representing the entrepreneurship coaching center Intotalo in my home region Kainuu also known as The Creativity Valley. He’s helped me a lot in our dialogues about Monkey Business and life and he encourages me always as I know he thinks in the same way with us about creativity, action and learning. Monkey Business! Says Ville.
Feedback about the Monkey Business Brand
Jun 24th
Just going through my inbox as I am doing the Notebook for the last Team Mastery session and I found this email from Henna dated at April 26th 2009. Enjoy! Ville
Ps. Special and big shout out goes to Liher aka Green Monkey (pictured above) as he made a quick comment about the non-working photo gallery of the last post. Thanks a lot! Kiitos!
Moijoi!
In Team Mastery in the Basque Country we had the them of Brand Management and we used Monkey Business as an example. I want to share the results because this is magical. Enjoy and take care!
TEST QUESTION: What comes into your mind first when you think about
Monkey Business?
Kaisu: a phenomenon, strongly personalized with the people in it, different, fun
Liher: funky people having fun. Group of friends. You never know what comes out when you work, but it will surely be crazy and good. You are shakers of everything!
Henkka: Banana, yellow, fun, what are you doing? Are you doing anything? I doubt! Your brand divides people, either you love it or you hate it. It’s different.
Pauline: Dare to be different, no serious. Your product is some coaching…?? Customers have to be certain kind of people to understand you.
Sain: Clever people – sensation feeling! What exactly you do? Ville is the central person, Ville, no me. Ville with Yellow shirt. Innovative, funny, different, crazy, attractive.
Tapio: Good brand. Noticeable. Honest. Young. Future! They do serious things but they don’t give and advertise the feeling of being serious.
So this is how our friends see us. What do you think?

A New Learning Expedition starts tonight as our guests arrive to Jyväskylä. Tomorrow morning a Check-in (Everybody gets to speak, say their name, little background, feelings and why they are here) and on we go. This time we will have a group around 6-7 people but with loads of interaction with Teampreneurs of Team Academy. I am excited. We’ll update Twitter and hopefully blog too during the Expedition so even if not you are in Jyväskylä you can follow and maybe even participate in some way or another.
I also finished the Team Mastery report I was working on earlier and for that I went through my pictures of the previous session in Haarlem. I should post more about it at some point but let us get started with pictures. I like blogs with pictures and try to be the change in the world by posting some on my own.
Team Mastery in Strasbourg Photos
Feb 9th
First of all, sorry for the silence with the blog. Many of the Monkeys are travelling and I am working on figuring out the way in the jungle. Good news are that I’ve updated the system behind our blog which means I can add new plugins and staff. And what this means that I am experimenting with photos. Here’s the first post with a new kind of gallery. Check out the photos from the second last session Team Mastery 2 held in Strasbourg. I already wrote about the anniversary of TA Alsace.
I cannot read the gallery's xml file: /var/www/fs1/15/bananafi/public_html/wp-content/photos/TM_Starbourg_scaled/gallery.xmlPlease check that the gallery's files have been created on the admin pages!
