Tape with thousand euros!
Feb 1st
I strongly believe that memories are the only possessions we should collect during our lives. Yesterday Ville talked about blog writing and refered it a bit: “are we happy with sharp drill bits in our rack or happy cos´ borrowed them to a friend”. So in Monkey Business we are sometimes taking it to – Do The Never! Or how could you explain to friend or customer that we are using about same amount Euros monthly to tapes, pins, t-shirts, coffee, ext. than we get salary? Or sometimes even more…
And we try explain it to ourselves that it´s marketing, tribe marketing. And same time happily admitting that we get very exited about these “side track purchaces”. It just feels good! And as you can see – last diktator of Finland, U.K.K – Urkki – Kekkonen, clearly shares the message. Year 2011 theme for Monkeys is U.K.K – stubborness and relentless. Thanks to Sanna for these ultimate kool coasters. And thanks to Asier and Funky Projects for giving us tape back in May 2007. It took allmost four years to implement it in MB…
You get what you measure – they say. So we have started to measure quality and free thinking time spent in hammock. Every 15 minuts gives you a credit. Hammock is electicity free zone, no lab tops etc. According Jussi T. Koski we should spent weekly two times two hours only focusing on thinking, slowing down. If you want to be creative. If you want to follow task list given by your boss – just keep on performing. So how do you explain this Hang Loose – measure to a logical engineer? Luckily I don´t have to. And results after 21st days in Hammock are that first podium place is shared between Johanna, Ville and Tatu. With only four credits/pp, only one hour in 21st days. How mutch is that? What is it? What are doeing? Are we thinking? Are we monkeys?
Human energy is the thing we need to increase. Sun really gives it at this time of year. And hammock. And all the little things I manage to live present. Those are the only things I can remember.

Old finnish saying says that it´s better to have one goose in backpack than ten flying free. So here I go. Strongly believing that one posted writing is better than ten unposted. In a way that is how all started in Monkey Busines. No business idea. A lot of questions, small and bigger ones. Or even before that here was a meeting between two humanbeings, Ville&Tatu year 2005. Maybe even Adam&Eva before that. Later some biercans and mugs of coffee. And an attitude that we can have impact. WE HAVE IMPACT!![]()
What would an organisation from future be like? Why is business so serious? What does mother Earth say to that? What is the best misunderstanding of my life? For me it´s Monkey Business – when people were talking about Funky Business. It was something we had been seeking out. Can´t be taken too seriously, yellow and playful. Travelling was meaningfull, ideas came through conversations with new people and surfing in new cultures. Bananashaped businesscard, logo and core message.
What is the tribe I want to join? Whose truth do I believe? Who/What leads me? After what I am running for? Is it possible? What inspires me? What keeps me moving? Dream? What is the cartoon I want to create?
Juha-Matti Kinnunen aka Tupsu has drawn these cartoons. And by serendipity we have started to use it as a tool for running interactive workshops. By telling our stories and raising questions and then throwing them to participants. And sharing our story is something that inspires me. No logic. Just attitude. Yellow spirit. And a lot of actions&Dialogue. Love me or hate me. Do the newer!

Customers whom we want?
Mar 23rd
We Monkeys aren´t like most people. But we do need friends(customers) to play with. To learn, lead, cocreate and to make world more fun & yellow! We have to first know who we are. Seth Godin, Tribes:
“ The art of leadership is understanding what you can´t compromise on.”
Beginning of year 2010 for us has been a bit like hike in a desert. Just have to believe that the oasis will come. Seth Godin, Tribes:
” The second thing you need to know is that the only thing holding you back from becoming the kind of person who changes things is this: lack of faith. Faith that you can do it. Faith that it´s worth doeing. Faith that failure won´f destroy you.”
Cosmos has challenged us by asking: are you serious about this? Time on desert has put our values in test also. Inner pressure is sometimes almost too hard to handle. But returning back from uncomfortable zone is rewarding. Things look clear for a while – illusion of infallible.
Prahalad & Krishnan, The new age of innovation:
” Start-ups do not need well-developed proseccies.”
Form follows funtion, said someone. So what we can do is keep on doeing. Culture is the Strategy. More experiments with customers who play with same rules. So we want:
*You, whom don´t want to work overtime daily to keep up the status quo
*You, whom don´t want be sheepwalking anymore
*You, whom wants to change, yourself, organization, world
*You, whom wants to learn, all the time, everywhere, from everybody
*You, whom wants to do all this together, smiling

Our campaign for January is wild as a Jungle and beating like a drum. Order one monkey now – and get second for free! Two monkeys for the price of one! Double amount of action, chaos and mistakes means at least six times more of learning. Maybe? Choose your Monkeys here: MonkeyBusiness_pres (Great profiles made by Nic. THANKS!)
We are supporters of fundamental freedom. Everyone is able to achieve what ever in the world – if you don´t mind who gets the honour. Pekka Himanen´s book, The Hacker Ethic, has had a lot influence to our Ideology. Passion and dedication to that, building on enthusiasm will carry on. So how can we encourage people on that? More listening to heart than rational mind? How do we help people to join enriching communities? How do we help people to find out who they really are? And what are they really passionate obout? And what is their strenght, superpower that they should build on? How do we help individuals to lead theirselves?
Linus Thorvalds created source code of Linux and story goes on. What is source code of Monkey Business? The DNA that people monkeying around are sharing? Do you feel the call?

X-mas Calender day 13 – What is this Monkey Business?
Dec 16th
That´s THE question. Here are some quotes from people whom we have met while chewing bananas:
*Experienced Business Coach, woman: “Monkey Business is formed around easy customers who buy what ever these Monkeys sell.”
*Senior Business Coach, man: ” Monkey Business is nothing, it´s just a tribe of fifty people or so.”
*Manager for International Affairs, man: ” Do these people know what Monkey Business means? How can their thinking be that low?”
*Innovation Manager, man:” You can´t be the best in the world. It is not possible.”
So, what do you think? What is this Monkey Business?

We forget to open 5th day. I do it now.
Here is story about the Team Mastery programs.
First international Team Mastery program started at December of 2006. Who were those people and what kind of challenges they had? Here are Tatu´s thoughts about his Team Mastery friends:
The first musketeers!
Charles: One of the last Dinosaurs of Belgium. Father of ten children. A former business man who about 10 years ago decided to change his life. “ Is it bad, is it good? I don´t know.”
Claude: Man with the awareness and precence. Great fan of Gandhi. Laugh which can not be forgotten.
Pascal: Great inventor of rabbit leadership. Man who has been changing Heineken breweries into a brain industrial time with Team Academy methods.
Etienne: Brave Ambassador. Father of Team Factory in Paris
Nieves: When chaos needs to turned into action with direction call this little power lady from Bask country. Mother of Team Academy Euskadi.
Xavi: “Breath in, breath out –by breathing you know you are alive”. Visioner and klownlike. Father of Team Academy Euskadi.
Gill: Wise observer with a little yellow notebook. The one to tell the right words when others speak too mutch. One of fathers Team Academy Angers
Laurent: Il Magnificio, impressive improviser, one of fathers Team Academy Angers
Pauline: Strong but emphatic coach from Neatherlands. Mother of Team Academy Haarlem.
Herve: Fearless surfer boy, one of fathers Team Academy Angers.
Robert: Doctor without borders
And there were also Sari Veripää, Sanna Tossavainen and Ville Keränen from Finland.
Second Team Mastery started at May of 2008. Here is cool notebook about Team Mastery 2 process made by Monkey Ville.
In February 2010 starts the Team Mastery 3 program. Who are those musketeers who are going to continue the story of the Team Masterys?
Here is story of Liher Pillado from Montragon University: “On my mission to create a radically better world, I want to inspire individuals and encourage collectives to lead the change they want to see. I strongly believe that TM3 could empower me on achieving this goal.”
And here is story of Theresia Warwizt from Innovation Management of Linde Group, Germany: “As an Organisation Development Manager, setting free potential for learning and creating ideal work environments in organisations is my passion. The germ for participating in Team Mastery 3 was planted when I attended Team Mastery Arena in autumn this year, and became fascinated by the way learning happens in Team Academy. In fact I believe that Team Academy tools enable a way of working that represents the future, and I wish to be a promoter of this new way, applying everything we learn – in particular teampreneurship – in the company I work for, and in all areas where we find nurturing soil, and where we as Team 3 can have a positive impact in this world. I can’t wait for the kick-off in February!”
Do you wanna be an adventurer and take part of this learning journey? Yes, you can!

Ten Steps on Tribe Marketing Offline
Nov 16th
Hey all and especially Jaana,
this morning when I biked to our yellow office I saw a vision of a blog post with then steps or principles about marketing to your tribe. This list is about building your tribe outside the internet and web 2.0. That list will come a little later on. So here we go!
1. Make meaning. (Guy Kawasaki)
2. Come up with a good name. (Guy Kawasaki)
3. Find a good slogan. (Like a core promise a la Thomas Gad)
4. Print the slogan on an ecological and fair trade T-Shirt.
5. Find a cool artist to draw a logo for you.
6. Print the slogan and logo on a notebook and distribute notebooks to your friends and customers.
7. Make cool stickers and hit them on the streets.
8. Make pins.
9. Get busy meeting (new) people.
10. Have fun doing all the above.
This is what we have done. Well, we also bought yellow jeans. Did I forget something?
Greetings from Basque Country
Sep 29th
Yellow greetings from Basque Country. Here I have visited Gaze workshop (thanks for invitation!), Manahmana and today at Mondragon Team Academy. I wanted shortly share a little marketing idea from the first Team Company of TAE Manahmana. See the picture below. Make one for yourself, and spread into appropriate places! Also see Maialen and Aitor of Manahmana in the other picture.
